Why do we blog?
For the last few days I have been playing with various blog systems, creating, customising and testing out, and then last night I thought, "Why do we blog?"
Some sneer and say it's because we are self absorbed, but those that know me, know that I am far from self absorbed.
Others say "how boring to read about other peoples lives, why do they think we are interested" - Now to me, it's those type of people that are so self absorbed that they aren't interested in anyone but themselves. I love reading the journal type blogs. Maybe that makes me nosy, I would be the first to admit that, but it certainly doesn't make me self absorbed or boring.
Even more people will say that unless a blog is imparting some sort of knowledge, is well written, technical, scientific or such, then it's not worth either writing or reading about. But surely it's reading about other people outlook on life, other peoples experiences that are equally as interesting.
Many people that would love to keep a blog are held back by the fact that they think that they aren't interesting enough or haven't experienced anything worth writing about. This is such a shame because even the Mother bringing up 10 kids or the young teen desperate to find a job or maybe juggling job and college, has a vast amount of experience in fields that others haven't.
Everyone is interesting, regardless of age, intelligence, life style or writing ability.
Love your pondering Sandy and I agree fully with what you say here. I for one am more interested in the every day person if you like then some professor on whatever field trying to drum some technical stuff down my throat!
ReplyDeleteBlogging is a bit of a mystery to me and not something that I really understand, particularly why one would even want to do it ... but, perhaps it is a bit like drawing. Some people draw, some people write, some people sing.
ReplyDeleteI very much understand many people's dislike for writing, and can fully understand those not interested in blogging. What I find most annoying though are those that sneer at people that do enjoy writing down their thoughts and sharing bits they personally find of interest. It's those that sneer, and there are a great many, that tend to put the ordinary person, that would like to blog, off of blogging, and I think that's such a shame.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's usually the ones that do sneer that are the ones reading blogs and then come back with a stupid comment! Talking about blogging I am working on another blog post right now lol.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading one bright sparks blog on the art of blogging. He was sneering at the diary types - His was so badly written and had such crap in it, it was laughable.
ReplyDeleteFor me, blogging is my outage. Have no one but on the phone or internet to talk to when I need someone. Yeah, I have a few I can go to and they help, but sometimes it's not the same as face to face.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it just helps a little to write it out and get it off my chest.
I totally agree Chilly. I love putting my thoughts down. It helps get things straight in ones head.
ReplyDeleteI'm still fairly new at blogging so still try to figure out what I want to blog about. I've started with blogging about my interests but who knows where this takes me lol.
ReplyDeleteI just love learning new things and having a go at those things and to have a few friends to connect up with is such a lovely bonus :).
It is a lot of fun learning the stuff, Martha!
ReplyDeleteMiss yaw guys over yonder much!
Very nice post, Zandranna, and so true.
ReplyDeleteIt is a privilege to be able to look in other people's lives via their blogs, not something we'd be able to do without the blogs.
