Is it only me that thinks bottled water is a total and absolute con? Here in Britain there is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking plain old tap water. In fact even when I go to a bar or restaurant I ask for tap water. I get a strange look each time, and they don't want to serve it to me because they aren't allowed to actually charge for tap water, but they do serve it.
I have only ever bought bottled water on 2 occasions when I bought a galleon each time, because my water had to be switched off for a few hours due to water main bursts.
I certainly wouldn't waste my money buying it as the normal way to drink water, I wouldn't waste my time shopping for it and I wouldn't waste my energy dragging it back home when I have a perfectly good source of free water in my own kitchen.
Yes, we have to pay water rates, but those have to be paid whether we drink our tap water or not, so drinking water is in effect free.
I also prefer the taste of tap water. Bottled water simply doesn't have the same taste, and as for sparkling bottled water, can someone tell me why on earth anyone wants to drink that.
Stick a few carbon-dioxide bubbles in a bottle of water and charge even more for it than a bottle of flat water. Whoever thought up putting water into bottles and selling it in countries where tap water is perfectly safe was, in my opinion, really the biggest con man of all time.
It was the Yuppie culture that started off this craze of buying and drinking only bottled water. The health fanatics then jumped on the band wagon with the biggest load of clap trap about bottled water being more healthy. Now I believe a lot of people buy it simply because they don't want to admit that they drink from their own taps for fear of being thought low class.
Some people have more money than sense.
Oh I wished I had saved the link to a program we had on tv here Sandy and it was about bottled water and the dangerous chemicals found in the plastic!
ReplyDeleteMight have to have a search for it and let you know but it was very interesting to say the least.
I never buy water in a bottle ....what a waist of money; just fill up a bottle from the tap at home and away you go lol.
Oh I read about that. Those chemicals seemingly are also in babies bottles.
ReplyDeleteOf course the government are playing it down, but really we never know how we are slowly being poisoned with anything we eat or use do we.
Yes indeed and as we know those baby bottles then get warmed up in the microwave and can you imagine how the chemicals get released brrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteI do remember the host of this show explaining that if a plastic bottle has the number 7 in the triangle at the bottom of the bottle then that means it has those chemicals!!
If it has a 1 or 3 that is safe to use. :)
My Sarah had a glass baby bottle and I used to sterilize it by putting it in boiling water for 3 or 4 minutes.
ReplyDeleteShe never once suffered with a tummy upset or the like. In fact she was a very healthy baby.
But then we did things so much more differently in those days.
Sometimes progress isn't for the best I don't think.
