ON BEING "BEHIND" IN ONE'S READING
Junior bit the meter man.
Junior kicked the cook
Junior's antisocial now
(According to the book)
Junior smashed the clock and lamp.
Junior hacked the tree.
(Destructive trends are treated
in chapters two and three)
Junior threw his milk at mom.
Junior screamed for more.
(Notes on self-assertiveness
are found in chapter 4.)
Junior tossed his shoes and socks
out into the rain.
(Negation, that, and normal--
disregard the stain.)
Junior got in Grandpop's room
Tore up his fishing line.
That's to gain attention
(See page 89.)
Grandpop seized a slipper and
Yanked Junior 'cross his knee
(Grandpa hasn't read a book
since 1943.)

I read this many, many years ago when I was about nine. My eldest Sister (13 years my senior) had for many years copied bits of poems, that she would read, into a note book. At the age of 73 she still has that note book.
Remembering this poem today I went in search of it on the web to see if anyone else might have posted it somewhere, and was lucky enough to find it. It saved me having to get my Sister to seek out her childhood note book, lend it to me, and me then type it out.
The person who posted it on their website actually has no idea where it came from, but I do. It is from a very antiquated, serious, book on how to bring up children, and this poem was in the preface of that book.
